A New Home for Our School Family

After careful reflection and thoughtful planning, we are excited to share an important milestone in the life of our school.

We Are Moving

Dear MdM families, staff, partners, and supporters,

We have an exciting announcement: MdM will be moving to a new location at 14100 E. Jewell Ave in Aurora. This move will take place at the close of our current lease, and we will begin our new chapter this summer, when our long-term lease on our new building begins.

This decision was made thoughtfully, deliberately, and with an unwavering focus on what is best for our students and for the long-term strength of this school community.

“This is not a disruption. It is a destination. We have always been building toward something, and this new space is the place where that vision fully takes shape.”

-Wendy Reneé, Executive Director

Honoring Our Journey

MdM was founded with the bold belief that every child in this community deserves an exceptional education in a space that reflects their worth. What began as a few classrooms in a humble storefront in 2014 has grown into a vibrant school serving 410 students across 10 grades today. This is thanks to the tireless effort of our founding families, dedicated educators, and generous supporters.

The walls of our current building have held first-day jitters and graduation celebrations, breakthroughs, and milestones. This community built something real here, and we carry every one of those memories with us as we move forward.

A Word to Our Donors and Funders

Many of our families, community members, and grant partners made generous investments in improving our current home. We want to say clearly and sincerely that those investments mattered.

Every dollar given transformed a retail space into a true learning environment. Students learned in classrooms that were brighter, safer, and better equipped because of your generosity. At the time those investments were made, we fully intended to remain in this space for the long term.

When we learned that a change in building ownership would affect our opportunities for expansion, the Board of Directors and Leadership Team undertook a rigorous evaluation of every option available to us. Their conclusion was clear: the best way to honor your investments is to ensure that we have a facility that allows us to achieve our purpose of developing lifelong learners and multilingual agents of change. In order to do this, we must move to a new location. We are grateful for your trust, and we will continue to steward your gifts with the same thoughtfulness and integrity we always have.

Why Now? The Reason Behind This Decision

As many of you know, MdM has been working on a long-term strategic plan that included purchasing our current building so we could expand and make it our permanent home. A little over a month ago, we were notified that the landlord had accepted another offer on the property and would be selling it. This was a big surprise for us, and it required our Board of Directors and Leadership Team to evaluate our plans and weigh all available paths. Several factors made it clear that now is the right time to transition:

Building Ownership Change

A change in building ownership introduced real uncertainty about our long-term ability to expand and plan.

Construction Costs

The financial burden of the necessary buildout improvements fell on MdM. With no guarantee this would be a permanent home, these costs were no longer a wise investment.

Safety Improvements

The new location is in a residential area with limited non-school traffic, no major thoroughfares, and a protected playground.

Financial Sustainability

The new space ensures MdM remains positioned for long-term financial health, freeing resources for students rather than building improvements.

What Makes Our New Space Special

We looked hard for the right building, and we found it. Here is what makes our new home exceptional.

Built out as a school

Our new facility has already been built out as a school. It was designed with students in mind, has room for expansion, and is almost move-in ready.

Safe, welcoming outdoor spaces

Our students will have access to safe outdoor areas for play, learning, and community gathering. The new outdoor space includes a playground, sand pit, basketball court, and other exciting features.

Improved car line

With less non-school traffic, we anticipate that car line will be smoother for parents because we will not have to compete with retail traffic.

A nearby location

We know a move of any distance requires adjustment. While the new location is farther from some families, it remains accessible to our community as a whole. More details on logistics and transportation will be shared over the summer.

Stable, Strong, and Ready

This is a very exciting opportunity for the school. MdM is financially secure. This move is a sound financial decision. Our leadership is stable. Our teachers are staying. Our students will not miss a day of learning. We will maintain our charter and our accreditation. We will have a guarantee of at least 20 years at this new home.

The Board of Directors has been engaged fully in this process as true partners in evaluating risk, opportunity, and responsibility. Their confidence in this decision is strong, and it is grounded in rigorous due diligence.
